ANTARPRERANA: CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Centre for Entrepreneurship (CE) is a yet another initiative of the
Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM), Madurai exemplifying its commitment
to help foster the Industry - Academic Interface. It helps in the
application of managerial practices in corporate with emphasis on Small and
Medium Scale Enterprises, Non- Government Organizations and Governmental
Agencies.
The TSM-CE's mission is to work with various entities through formal
consulting engagements with a view to improve their managerial effectiveness
and enhance their performance. It is also the intention of TSM-CE to carry
out applied research to develop, adopt and implement appropriate solutions
to the issues confronting such entities. This process would also facilitate
developing case-materials with local flavor for the MBA programme.
The division is currently headed by the Director, Prof. N. Venkiteswaran,
who has substantial years of experience in industry and in business
consulting. The consultants are drawn from the TSM faculty depending on the
needs of each assignment/study. These consultants have considerable academic
experience in different management functions and disciplines.

A vital part of preparation in the Teaching Learning process at TSM is the
Guest lectures programme. Aimed at providing invaluable exposure to global
thought leaders with ethical values, this programme brings the students
face-to-face with the biggest names in business and academics, from around
the world.
Mr. Prashanth Seetharaman, Founder and CEO, Akmin Technologies
Private Limited spoke on Strategy of Akmin on 04.04.2011. Mr.
Prashanths talk became a live case for students who are going through
a course on 'Strategic Management' The talk was followed by Q & A
session for both first and second year MBA graduates. Akmins software
products are today used by over 5 lakh users worldwide. Akmin's Products
were winners/nominees of prestigious industry awards like CNBC Emerging
India Award, Webby awards(USA), Mobile Internet World Innovation 2008 Award
(USA), NASSCOM top 50 Innovators, etc. Akmins products are used in
over 40 countries with strong user base in North America and Western Europe.
Some of its international clients include American Red Cross, GE, Vodafone,
Pfizer, Philips, Cisco, etc. For the past 3 years it has also started to
focus on the Indian market and it has quickly won clients like Airtel,
Orient Longman, IndiaMART, etc.

Mr. S. P. Muralidharan, General Manager of Hi-tech Arai Limited
spoke on practical applications of industrial marketing on 11.03.2011.
Hi-tech Arai Ltd. is an example for B2B marketing and it has effective
practices to enable the product to be delivered on time to the customers.
The Japanese practices such as the 5S Concept, JIT and proper planning has
also contributed a lot to the success of the firm.

Mr. Ralph Simmons BEC trainer from Cambridge ESOL visited TSM campus
on January 29, 2011 for addressing the students on interview techniques,
preparing resume, and on the business etiquettes required.

Capital Advisors India (Private) Limited visited TSM campus on 17 February
2011 and addressed the TSM-MBA students on the topic, /Financial Services:
The Road Ahead. /The highlight of the interaction was a lively
question-answer session on the state of the Indian economy and the financial
markets in particular.

Dr. Asoke K Talukder, recently visited TSM
as a Chief Guest for an International Conference on Information and
Communication Technology (ICICT-2010) on 16-17 December, 2010. Dr. Talukder
was the DaimlerChrysler Chair Professor at IIIT-Bangalore, and Visiting
Professor at VIT University Vellore. Currently he is Adjunct Faculty at ABV
Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior,
Adjunct Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, NIT
Warangal, and Adjunct Faculty, Department of Computer Engineering, NITK
Surathkal, is a creative individual with expertise from technology to
creative arts.
Mr. N.C. Krishnan CEO , of Acurus
Solutions interacted with the TSM students on 13th December 2010. Mr.
Krishnan spoke about the convergence between what you like to do and what
you need to do. He also discussed on the 4 Cs for a successful career
viz. Commitment, Completion, and Culture and Customer experience.

Dr. S. Mohan, Director, Human Resources,
Board member of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., a Global
Fortune 500 company, addressed TSM students on 25th November 2010
and spoke about the expectations of corporate from the budding
managers. He added that students should develop willingness to learn
and take up challenges and face it. He also spoke about BPCLs
contribution to banking sector and the program launched by BPCL for
SDCV drivers. |

General Management Programme for the Postal
officials organized from 9th September,2011 to 18th September ,2011
Department of Posts is conducting the first ever induction training
programme for the newly created Postmaster Cadre officials. This induction
program aims to train the postmasters in Postal operations, Statutory duties
and responsibilities, various flagship projects of the department of posts
and General Management concepts, soft skills and personality development.
The Department of Posts has taken assistance of Thiagarajar School of
Management to deliver expertise in the area of General Management Concepts.
A three days training programme was organized in the campus of Thiagarajar
school of Management during the first week of September,2011 .The training
covered expert lectures on different functional areas of Management such as
strategic management, marketing management, cost management, human resource
management, operations management, etc., A total of 120 trainees attended
the programme.The intention was to mould them as Managers rather than mere
supervisors to satisfy the changing perception of the customers of the Post
office and make the post office the centre of the community again."
